The brief for Harbour Views was to restore the freestanding sandstone and brick cottage and build a dynamic modern addition to capture the views of the harbour and Cockatoo Island.
One of the main issues was the retention of the existing sandstone cottage as the dwelling was situated within a highly visible corner site in a heritage conservation area.
To address the issue of heritage versus modern, a vertical glazed element was introduced to separate the modern zinc clad extension from the old cottage.
Internally, the first four rooms were lovingly restored, celebrating the existing ornate details. Existing sandstone walls on the lower ground floor act as a feature that complement the rustic timber doors. Floor to ceiling glazed sliding doors provide a seamless transition from indoor to outdoor, capturing the phenomenal views.
